How to modernize?

How to modernise

When you decide to modernize your elevator, we ensure a smooth process from start to finish. For each project, we assign a project manager who manages the whole process. They provide a single point of contact, answering any questions you might have, and making sure your project is completed on time and on budget. They can also provide information about permits, subsidies and regulations.

They coordinate everything from planning to installation. When the installation is complete, we conduct a safety and performance inspection, making sure the new elevator meets the relevant norms. We can also provide maintenance services to keep your elevator running reliably and safely for its future operational life cycle.

A step-by-step guide

Before you begin

Before you start, it’s best to be sure of exactly what needs to be done. We perform a KONE Care for Life™ assessment, producing a full report that shows where there may be deficiencies in your elevator, together with an action plan to get it working optimally. Doing the assessment does not obligate you in any way.

Getting started

The first step is to gather information about the relevant regulations, building permits and available subsidies.

Many European countries provide subsidies for modernizing an elevator in order to improve safety, accessibility and energy efficiency. These subsidies may be augmented by subsidies from local governments and the European Union.

In order to help you discuss elevator modernization with building owners and residents, we have prepared a short presentation.

Contact us to help you analyze the energy-efficiency of your elevator with the KONE Care for Life service and to get a cost estimate for modernizing your equipment.

Modernization packages speed up planning, and have been developed to address the safety, performance and energy efficiency issues in elevators in residential or commercial buildings. You can use the Car Designer tool to design your new elevator’s look. Before installation begins, your KONE contact conducts a site survey to make sure you get the right solution for your requirements.

During installation, we do everything we can to minimize disturbance to residents and makes sure that no damage is done to the building. During the project, we keep residents informed about its progress and carry out the final safety and performance inspections before final handover to the client. We also ensure environmentally friendly removal, disposal, or recycling of the old equipment.

Maintaining people flow

During modernization of multiple elevators, you might expect traffic capacity to decrease. Our Modernization Overlay method eliminates that capacity decrease.

Modernization Overlay is a temporary group control system that’s compatible with both new and old elevator systems.

To keep your elevator running reliably and safely for decades, we provide KONE Care™ maintenance services. The services are based on preventive maintenance to detect and fix potential problems before they lead to stoppage of the equipment.
