Powering Healthcare with Clean Energy – Solar-Powered PHCs in Puri, Odisha.
Access to reliable electricity is fundamental to quality healthcare—yet in many climate-vulnerable regions, power disruptions continue to challenge service delivery. Addressing this critical gap, KONE India CSR, in partnership with SELCO Foundation and the Government of Odisha, inaugurated 10 solar-powered public health facilities under the Energy for Health (E4H) programme.
Access to reliable electricity is vital for quality healthcare, especially in climate-vulnerable coastal Odisha. Rooftop solar systems at primary health centers in Puri ensure uninterrupted power for critical medical equipment, lighting, and emergency services—significantly strengthening maternal and child healthcare, diagnostics, and immunization for communities reliant on public health facilities.
The impact of the initiative is substantial. Over 150 healthcare workers now benefit from improved working conditions, and more than 2,00,000 people are expected to gain access to reliable and essential healthcare services. With a total installed capacity of 65.03 kWp, the project is also projected to reduce 1,278 tonnes of CO₂e emissions over the next 20 years.
